PA Residents Remain Divided on Resumption of Talks Despite Release of Terrorists


papA poll conducted among residents of PA (Palestinian Authority) autonomous areas and Gaza indicates that only 46% of the population supports the resumption of diplomatic talks with Israel. 48% stated they oppose renewed talks despite the release of prisoners by Israel.

The poll questioned 1,200 people among which 25% stated in their hearts they hope the talks will lead to a comprehensive peace agreement with Israel while 38% admit they feel the chances of an agreement are slim, and 36% feel the release of prisoners by Israel will not influence the talks.

In the meantime, the families of the 26 terrorists being released by Israel on Tuesday, 7 Elul 5773, the atmosphere is one of jubilance as they prepare the festivities for the homecoming. In the PA, these terrorists are viewed as freedom fighters and not as heinous individuals who indiscriminately murdered innocent Jews because they are Jews.

Fourteen of the 26 terrorists being released are Gaza residents and celebrations are taking place there as well.

PA officials expressed disappointment in an interview with the daily Maariv, pointing out most of those being released would have been released in the near future anyway.

  1. Although I disagree with release of these prisoners, I can imagine varieties of pressure from the United States that would require Israel to say, “Yes.”

    I also disagree with Israel releasing these prisoners without some appropriate quid pro quo from our Pals.

    Finally, it is time enact the death penalty for anyone attempting murder or murdering in the course of a terrorist action or a “nationalistic” action.
