Developer Donated To NY Gov As He Mulled NYC Tax Break

cuomnNY Gov. Andrew Cuomo received $100,000 from a New York City developer as the Democrat prepared to sign a bill pushed by the Bloomberg administration to give a tax break to developers of condominiums and co-op apartments.

Days after two corporations tied to Extell Development made two $50,000 donations to Cuomo’s campaign, Cuomo signed the bill that would benefit the developer’s 57th Street apartment tower in Manhattan.

The donations were first reported by the New York Daily News.

A Cuomo spokesman provided a memo from the Bloomberg administration urging Cuomo to sign the bill in part to encourage job growth. The memo states the bill will expand existing tax breaks. The Cuomo spokesman had no immediate comment.

The developer has long been a donor to Cuomo and some state legislators.
