Jerusalem Mayor Leon Meets With US State Department Officials

On Monday, Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon met with US State Department representatives Addison Ted Davis and Thomas J. Quanzo, along with local embassy staff accompanying the transition of the US Embassy to the capital. Also present in the meeting was Deputy Mayor Mrs. Flor Hassan Nachum.

Issues pertaining to the permanent residence of the US Embassy in the capital were discussed.

Mayor Leon gave full backing and confirmed the existence of an urban green track for planning and licensing the embassy structure.

They also discussed the issues of a future light rail station. The mayor gave the parties his approval to move the station four meters in compliance with a request by US Secret Service officials.

There are two venues being considered for the permanent embassy building. The final decision is expected in the coming months. As is well known, in all cities of the world where American embassies are located, growth has been observed in all aspects, and the same is expected in Jerusalem.

In addition, embassy complexes around the world are designed to suit the local environment and so will be the case in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon: “The American embassy has today received a green light from the Jerusalem municipality. Within six months we will reach advanced stages and with the help of Gd in a few years we will be inaugurating the permanent embassy of the American embassy in the capital.”
