Environmental Affairs Ministry experts are warning that a buildup of methane gas in a garbage dump in Tiveria, near Poriah Hospital, poses a serious hazard and may result in disaster.
The gas buildup according to environmentalists is the result of the contractor responsible for the dump site not processing the waste materials as required. As a result, the gas is building up in the area and it may threaten the nearby hospital and other buildings, as well as an immediate threat to workers in a nearby rock quarry.
The operator of the trash dump rejected the allegations of blame, stating the company is only a subcontractor of the responsible agency and is not required to deal with the methane gas problem.
