Public opinion polls show Anthony Weiner’s downfall benefiting Bill de Blasio, placing him in 2nd place in the most recent Quinnipiac poll of likely primary voters. Hence, conventional wisdom gives Bill Thompson the upper hand in landing a second in the runoff.
As Christine Quinn regained her position as the Frontrunner in the race for mayor, the fight for 2nd place has now become a trio between Weiner, Thompson and de Blasio. Amid the latest revelations about Anthony Weiner’s inappropriate behavior, attracting national attention to the race, the two Bill’s have been gaining traction as mayoral candidates on national TV. And they don’t this to end.
Following Bill de Blasio’s debut appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Monday morning, Bill Thompson got the chance to address the Weiner scandal, Wednesday morning, obviously addressing the media’s obsession of covering Mr. Weiner’s candidacy.
“Thompson came in, he said, ‘Listen I will talk only about Anthony Weiner and Anthony Weiner’s problems. Because I want to continue this,’” host Joe Scarborough offered as Mr. Thompson laughed. “You believe that we in the media haven’t been talking about Anthony Weiner enough.”
“He wants to give the story voice,” co-host Mika Brzezinski added.
“You guys haven’t covered that topic at all,” Mr. Thompson told them.
“Why is that?” Mr. Scarborough asked. “Do you think we’re afraid? Afraid of controversy?”
“It’s clear that the media just doesn’t want to tackle this tough subject of Anthony Weiner,” the candidate replied.
On a more serious note, Mr. Thompson expressed his frustration with the sole attention directed at Weiner. “Right now we’re not talking about affordable housing. We’re not talking about education. We’re not talking about the issues that are going to impact this city for decades to come,” he said. “What the media is talking about is Anthony Weiner. It has become a horrible distraction in this race.”

Aha. You mean things like, ending “stop & frisk”, turning NYC into the crime capitol of the Nation??? You mean, having another David Dinkins in control? You mean, bringing back “Race” riots back to the streets?
