Lapid: Yeshiva Budget Cut Remains as Planned!

lapFinance Minister Yair Lapid announced on Wednesday, 24 Menachem Av 5773 that despite demands from Bayit Yehudi, the planned cut to yeshivos funding stands as planned.

Yeshivos, both chareidi and dati leumi warned that if Lapid gets his way there will be a crippling cut that may force come yeshivos to close their doors. The budget for 2013 according to Lapid’s plan will be 70% of the previous year. In 2014 the budget will be 50% of the 2012 budget.

At this point and time it is unclear if Lapid’s statement represents the final word and just how far Bayit Yehudi will take the battle. It was Bayit Yehudi MK Yoni Chetboun who was tenacious in his battle to save yeshivos, unwilling to take no for an answer. While he has the backing of party leader Naftali Bennett, it is yet to be seen how far Bennett will take the fight and if the non-frum faction of the party will support such a move.

  1. A plague on them all

They’re just playing (wink ,wink) good cop/bad cop

Yoni Chetboun wishes to be decent, but he is outclassed

  2. I’ll leave to HaRav Goldvicht z”l, founder and dean of KEREM B”Y and guiding light of hesder and Rebbe to hundreds of talmidim to disintegrate the vile insipid apikorsus of the lomdei yeshivos and coarse anti heroic glorification of the hesder/army service .

Some four decades ago at a dedication at KBY, a leader of Mafdal spoke in similar vein(to some commenters) idealizing hesder and calling them the pinnacle and best fruits of the Jewish people. HaRav Goldvicht immediately got up to the podium and proceeded to demolish the minister’s high falutin’ salutation .

    He said “Chas V’shalom.Chas V’shalom
The ultimate ideal really are.. the lomdim full-time in the authentic yeshivos.
What we do here is only B’di’eved.
..so that our talmidim will not get swallowed up in the army’s society.
    Lesser of two evils.

    (‘Gadol’ Hadorah, et al.,

    Deja Vu)

  3. If one hears the warning of the new chef Rabi Low, that the boucherim should not go to cafe shops to watch tv, why not cut completly the budget, that is not yeshivah boucherim

  4. We need a delegation of chashuva men to go to Selish (Salava), Ukraine, knock on the grave of his great-grandafather the big tzaddik Rav Shmuel Shmelke Klein zt”l, the צרור החיים, and request that he take care of his wayward grandson, the צורר היהודים, and give him some good spanking.

  5. “it is yet to be seen how far Bennett will take the fight and if the non-frum faction of the party will support such a move.”

Bennett will NEVER back out of the coalition with Lapid, no matter what he does! Why should the “non-frum” of his Party care about budget cuts that will force Yeshiva closings? Piron/Lipman have already poisoned the waters! They are “chareidi” and they believe the Yeshivos should close! So Bennett always has an “excuse”. He’s not going anywhere!

  6. A pity that this rav,if indeed he said it, felt that way. Anyway, there are others who diametrically opposed his point of view, as you well know . This full time learning is a parasitic device to draw money and refuse army service and work. I’m glad that Lapid and Bennett are the ones finalyl to take them on without trepidation. Hatzlacha!

  7. #11 No, they’re not. Lapid announced he’s only cutting funds from yeshivot and the rich.

#10 one who אין יראת אלקים בלבו
You should post on Haaretz where you might get some support.

  8. #2 – I don’t have a problem who wants to learn full time I think they should allowed as per the status Quo agreement and I also believe that Teffilah and Torah protects us.

However there is still a need for an army to allow Hashem to perform miracles as he has done in 1948, 1967, 1973 even in 2009.

I hear about miracles everyday during such in such maneuvers sniper fires bullets comes within inches and no one get hurt. That is a real miracle…

If the Charadim would have shown some sort of gratitude to the Army and to the State of Israel I believe that we would not be having this discussion.

If the Charadim would formally dedicate part of their learning to the welfare of the soldiers especially during war I believe that we would not be having this discussion.

If the Charadim would stand and say a little tehillim during the Sirens on Yom HaZikaron I believe that we would not be having this discussion.

If the Charadim would not have spit on a little girl and terrorize a bunch of little girls I believe that we would not be having this discussion.

If the Charadim would have been a little more lenient and understanding regarding the mehadrin busses I believe that we would not be having this discussion.

If the Charadim would not have rioted about pagan bones in the Ashkelon new hospital wing I believe that we would not be having this discussion.

If the Gedolim would have publicly spoke out against the spitters and rioters I believe that we would not be having this discussion.

If the bochurim who are not or can’t learn would have contributed somehow I believe that we would not be having this discussion.

If the charadim would try to understand that form the time that we drop off our kids at ammunition hill for their induction untill the are dismissed at the age of 45 we do not SLEEP. (Ask my wife how many restless nights she had when I was called up.)

Depending on the unit there are missions and stuff that happens that is off the radar and not reported. If the charadim showed any type of understanding and gratitude for what a parent or spouse goes through I believe that we would not be having this discussion.

These are just a few example I could go on and on
