Chareidi MKs Get a Mincha Break in Knesset

knessetThe Knesset plenum discussion dealing with the state budget is a long one, one that includes 3,500 objections from the opposition. In an effort to filibuster, Islamic MKs asked Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein for a break to permit them to end their Ramadan fast. The break was granted. Following the lead, chareidi MKs asked for a break to permit them to daven mincha. Edelstein called for a recess at 15:00 for a half hour for mincha during the session on Monday, 22 Menachem Av 5773.

Even veteran MKs don’t recall when the plenum broke for mincha, but it appears there is a first time for everything.

Lapid is not making apologies or backing down regarding his budget, rejecting the insults and allegations against him. He calls the budget fair and responsible. Obviously directing remarks at chareidim he added that anyone bringing children into the world is responsible for those children, no one else, including the state.

  1. They can afford to be liberal, as neither the Arabs nor the Hareidim, both of whom are getting “screwed” by the budget, can block it. Whereas American conservatives are restrained in economic matter by the fact that much of their constituency is poor (unlike the Democrats who are led by the Limmosine liberals), and that their constituency is dominated by religious fanactics, the economic right in Israel is anti-religious which frees to advocate oppressing the poor as an economic policy.

  2. They wouldn’t want to start a fight about this with the Arabs, so it’s thanks to Arabs that religious Jews get the mincha break. The anti-Torah G-dless government would never have agreed to a mincha break if religious Jews would have requested it.

It’s for the same reason – fear of Arab rebellion – that they would not conscript them nor threaten them with cutting government funds. They can only do that to Charedim – their worst enemy.

  3. Akuperma, how can you say that “Israel is anti-religious,” when 10% of all Israelis are chareidim, and many more are dati leumi? 30% of knesset members wear kippot, and 1 in 3 first graders are chareidi!

You are grossly over-generalizing and saying loshon horah about thousands of Jews. Please clarify what you mean.

  4. A THOUGHT : Just wondering about you. Imagine there would be no Israel Chas Vesholom. What would you do to calm your anger, resentment and hate? Chew on carpets? Why don’t you go biking or hiking to relieve your potentially dangerous stress.
Or do what I do; Drink milk shakes, eat halvah ( B’datz hasgocha) and shop for onions . It helps.

  5. rationalfrummie, when Akuperma says Israel he means the government – or the leaders.
btw you knew that.. so stop making problems
