Changes Eyed In Door-To-Door Mail Delivery

uspsThe U.S. Postal Service wants to end door-to-door delivery for new homes in favor of curbside service and neighborhood cluster boxes.

A House panel is considering legislation that would take that one step further, phasing out door-to-door delivery for nearly all Americans.

The proposal is part of a broad reform effort designed to cut costs at the cash-strapped agency by up to $4.5 billion a year. The Postal Service had a $16 billion loss last year.

In a change the Postal Service began in April, people moving into newly built homes will receive curbside or neighborhood cluster box service.

  1. I still thing they should get rid of Saturday mail. It works in other countries and no one complains about it. And they have taken polls and the vast majority of Americans think its a good idea.

  2. It’s horrible. The phones don’t dial. The ice man never comes anymore. Have you noticed how hard it is buy a quill to write with?

  3. The fed government should mandate all americans get a curbside mailbox like the yellow hamodia ones. This would decrease the amount of walking postmen do and might cut down on the 75% of postal workers collecting disability.

  4. 3. Some of us BH DO NOT live in NYC and so we like to have parking places, like the ones IN FRONT of out houses!

  5. Why not charge the same price for junk mail as they do for first class?
This would eliminate a large volume of needless papeer.
Of course, charities and such would be exempy.
