Israel: Phishing SMS Received by Many Over Rosh Hashanah

Many Israeli residents received an SMS message during Rosh Hashanah informing them their cellular package was about to expire, requesting the recipient clicks on the URL link to renew the package for only NIS 2.50 a month by following the instructions.

The message is a phishing scam according to Israel Police, which is aware of the widespread message.

The sender hopes recipients will click on the link and thereby steal credit card information, which is required in order for one to renew one’s package.

Israel Police officials explain there is no doubt the message is part of a scam to steal credit card information of recipients. If one has already filled out the page, one is instructed to return to the page via one’s browser history and erase the information as well as informing one’s credit card provider.
