1,600 People Treated For Medical Emergencies in Uman Over Rosh Hashanah

Over the course of Rosh Hashanah in the city of Uman, Ukraine, more than 1,600 people received emergency medical treatment by United Hatzalah volunteers who were stationed in and around the city to provide first aid care for the tens of thousands of people who spent the holiday in the city. After receiving emergency first aid care in the field, those requiring further care were taken to the medical clinic in Uman that was run by Oxford Medical in partnership with United Hatzalah.

Head of the medical clinic Nachi Klein issued a statement at the end of the holiday that said: “The medical cases that we treated included broken bones, lacerations, contusions of various kinds and degrees, shortness of breath, a number of victims suffering wounds from bb gun pellets, and other medical issues some of which required transport to local hospitals or hospitals in Kiev. At the beginning of the holiday, one person was airlifted to a hospital in Kiev as he required immediate hospitalization due to his severe condition.”

  1. This sounds like a fundraising article with incorrect numbers. A quick google search shows between 40 and 60,000 people go to Uman for Rosh Hashanah. If we go with 60,000, that means 1 in 37.5 people needed medical help in 1 day.

  2. Just a typical yom tov in Uman….broken bones, shot gun pellet wounds etc. just the usual stuff you see at any shtieblach in Willy or BP

  3. My guess is that they consider simply giving a bandaid or water to any person as providing assistance.

And tpss, I see conflicting numbers. JNS says between 50,000-70,000, but the Kyiv Post puts the figure at only 27,000.

  4. IN BORO PARK,WIILIAMSBURG,MONROE,MONSEY ,FLATBUSH, LAKEWOOD,E YISROEL, LONDON, CANADA,BELGIUM, ECT ECT THERE R MUCH MORE JEWISH PEOPLE THAN IN UMAN. AND THERE WERE NOT 1600 MEDICAL CALLS IN THE SAME TIME FRAME.OR EVEN CLOSE TO THAT #. SOMETHING FISHY !!! AH AH MAYBE UMAN????
