Rabbi Eliyahu Abarjil has informed Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita on Tuesday, 16 Menachem Av 5773 that he is dropping out of the Chief Rabbinate race. The election is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 17 Menachem Av.
The rav arrived at Rav Ovadia’s home on Tuesday morning to inform him in person that he is dropping out towards advancing the candidacy of Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef.
Rabbi Abarjil handed the Gadol Hador a letter informing him of his decision, then calling on all of his supporters to please vote for Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, who is in the race to become the next Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel.
