New York City police say an autopsy’s finding that an officer shot an armed domestic violence suspect in the back “makes sense” given the chaotic circumstances.
Police say 39-year-old Gregory Edwards fired his gun twice before an officer fatally shot him Tuesday on Staten Island. Another officer was wounded in the hand.
The medical examiner’s office said Wednesday that Edwards’ heart, aorta and right lung were damage by the gunshots.
Police say Edwards “immediately became combative” with officers, who’d tried subduing him with a Taser and grabbed his hands to direct his gun’s muzzle away from people.
An organization that’s represented Edwards in court called for the release of body camera footage of the scrum, as well as the officers’ names.
The Legal Aid Society says police must work to de-escalate such situations.

Sounds like they actually did de-escalate the situation. Much better to take care of things permanently than to have the animal come back to haunt us.
