The Jerusalem District Court handed down a 5.5 year prison term and a NIS 15,000 fine on a resident of Silwan who was convicted of acts of terrorism, deliberate tampering and dealing in weapons for the purpose of terror. The defendant was convicted of throwing Molotov cocktails, stones and a gas balloon at police in three instances in Kfar Silwan.
According to the criminal indictment, in November 2017 the defendant and two friends threw firebombs at a police jeep parked in the Silwan area. The jeep went up in flames. In a second incident, the three threw firebombs, fireworks and rocks at a security vehicle carrying the driver and three passengers. The front of the vehicle went up in flames. In a third incident, in February 2017, he was charged with throwing rocks and a gas balloon at an escort vehicle bringing workers to Silwan. There was damage to the vehicle.
Regarding the two additional defendants involved in the arson, they were charged with dealing with weapons and acts of terror. One was sentenced to 54 months imprisonment and the second 42 months.
