Panicked by the polls, Shas party Chairman Minister Aryeh Deri on Sunday evening broke his own cherem against Kol Berama Radio, granting an interview to Moshe Glasner during the main evening news program.
Deri has been boycotting the station for years due to its relationship of the owner with former Shas leader Eli Yishai, Deri’s political nemesis, instructing all Shas-affiliated persons and institutions not to interview on the station.
It appears the ‘state of emergency’ in Shas ahead of the election for 22nd Knesset was sufficient reason for Deri to violate his own cherem, as he granted the interview with less than two days before the polls open.
A number of minutes before the interview, Shas announced “due to the ‘state of emergency’ and danger to the Torah world, Gadol Hador HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen Shlita, head of the Shas Moetzas Chachmei HaTorah, and Shas Chairman Rav Aryeh Deri agreed to interview with the Kol Berama Radio station towards awakening the tzibur to stop being complacent and to get out and work for and vote for Shas.
Shas also announced that immediately following elections, it will begin the process of working to reestablish a relationship with Kol Berama.
