Last year my younger son got the flu two years ago my older son got both strains of the flu
I think the reason I didnât get it is because I didnât get the flu ahot
September 16, 2019 11:07 am at 11:07 am #1787020GadolhadorahParticipantMost employers, including many of the larger Jewish mosdos, are offering free vaccinations, along with the many of the drugstores and markets with pharmacies (if you have any insurance). Its a no brainer except for the no-brainer anti-vaxers. While the effectiveness varies from year to year, there are virtually no side-effects (except for a sore arm for a few hours) and even a 30-40 success rate is better than nothing.
September 16, 2019 12:53 pm at 12:53 pm #1787077ChadGadyaParticipantI got my flu shot. I was playing with my rifle and accidentally peppered my central heating furnace.
September 16, 2019 12:53 pm at 12:53 pm #1787070NKChossid612ParticipantFlu shots cause vaccines
September 16, 2019 3:29 pm at 3:29 pm #1787091GadolhadorahParticipantChadgadya….Your FLUE is suffering from multiple puncture wounds which often respond well to injections of grey matter (e.g. also know to pharmacists as “duct tape”) to fill the voids.
September 22, 2019 8:41 am at 8:41 am #1788547takahmamashParticipantI asked my doctor about the flu shot last week. Her answer: “Just like everything else, ×××¨× ××××× !”
September 23, 2019 12:54 am at 12:54 am #1788783Sam KleinParticipantYour health and flu situation is all in the hands of Hashem. We all need to do our part in all aspects of our life-from health to livlihood etc…-but Hashem runs the world %100 not trump and Zuckerberg or Netanyahu etc… They are all just Hashems messengers.
YOUR health is run by Hashem (a person can have ZERO vaccinations and be the healthiest person around and vice versa a person can have all 35 vaccinations and C”V be sick in bed with serious pains suffering from illnesses R”L.
turn to Hashem directly for all your needs including any health issues from light to serious. And don’t go to middleman agents. Only Hashem can help you.
September 23, 2019 7:50 am at 7:50 am #1788790ZSKParticipantI haven’t gotten the flu shot since 8th grade when I got it and missed almost a month of school (and failed 2 bechinas for high school as a result). May get it this year, depending on what the Misrad HaBriut says about the expected severity this year.
September 23, 2019 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm #1789008GadolhadorahParticipantSam Klein……I think there is a goyishe sect call Christian Science where adherents forego medical treatment and trust in their notion of “hashem” to prevent and cure all ailments. Yidden DO rely on middlemen (aka doctors, medical researchers and public health workers) who advise on the proper diagnostics and treatment for our well being. Gadolei yisroel themselves routinely seek out the best medical treatment for themselves and their families and advise their followers to do the same. Do we supplement medical advice with tefillah, tzadakah and ma’asim tovim….of course we do. But deliberately ignoring a medical issue or not taking prudent steps to minimize the likelihood of incurring medical problems by regular exercise, proper diet contradicts daas torah (u’shamartem es nafshosechem etc.) and the clear guidance of gadolei yisroel.
September 23, 2019 7:48 pm at 7:48 pm #1789031funnyboneParticipantSam: go troll someplace else.
And don’t forget to say a tefillah before you take your meds that Hashem should help that it should be for a refuah sheleima. And before you go to your medical or mental health professional, ask Hashem that he should be the correct messenger.September 23, 2019 9:56 pm at 9:56 pm #1789061âď¸coffee addictParticipantâYour health and flu situation is all in the hands of Hashemâ

I got mine yesterday.
September 26, 2019 2:43 pm at 2:43 pm #1789990MominessParticipantI’ve never gotten a flu shot and Bli ayan hora Ive never had the flu and I dont plan on getting it this year either. Anyway every year its a different strain that goes around.
September 27, 2019 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm #1790212flatbusherParticipantI have read that the effectiveness of the flu shot wear down over time so I don’t see the point in getting it so far ahead of flu season.
September 28, 2019 10:24 pm at 10:24 pm #1790281Ex-CTLawyerParticipant@flatbusher
The prime reason for getting a flu shot in the beginning of autumn is that flu season begins and you may be exposed to those to are early to have flu.
Secondary reason is some years there is a run on the serum as the season progresses and it may be unavailable when you decide you want a flu shot.
I typically have my flu shot the first week of October. Two years ago the flu affected great numbers of people and the strain was a bit different than what was expected. In January my doctor suggested a second flu shot of the new serum that had been produced for the prevalent strain. I got the second shot, no flu. Three attorneys in my office all in their 40s laughed at the idea of a second shot, all three got the flu.October 3, 2019 10:45 pm at 10:45 pm #1791191seekingthetruthParticipantI never got the shot and NEVER got the flu
October 3, 2019 10:46 pm at 10:46 pm #1791187DrmomParticipantCant understand why people are still advocating so strongly for flu shots. Still no good effectiveness, and chances of risk. Please please please dont get the multi strain flu shot as it contains Mercury which isnt safe in any amount in the blood. It’s totally a choice, a gamble. Definitely not clear cut that “it works”, or “it’s safe”. Make your choice and don’t blame others who choose to take vitamins c and d daily instead. Flu comes from a vitamin d deficiency (no sun around)
October 4, 2019 12:33 am at 12:33 am #1791202philosopherParticipantLast year my doctor urged me to get the flu shot but I didn’t want to. I don’t remember ever having flu, but that year, just for refusing to get the shot :-), I got a severe case of flu which turned into pneumonia. But I don’t regret not getting the shot. When the body overcomes disease it gets stronger.
I have no doubt that down the road the medical community will come to the realization that too many shots are harmful just like they came to the realization that too much antibiotics weakens the body’s defense.
October 4, 2019 10:56 am at 10:56 am #1791241Ex-CTLawyerParticipantIt’s October 4th and I got my annual flu shot this morning
October 6, 2019 3:29 pm at 3:29 pm #1791521Amil ZolaParticipantI got mine last week. Depending on when the flu hits in my state my Dr. will often advise a second shot and I will willingly get one.
October 10, 2019 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #1792299HealthParticipantdrmom – “Mercury which isnt safe in any amount in the blood.”
Do you mean Thermoseal? And Btw, it was never proven dangerous. The gov. took it out because they were scared of the Health Nuts constant screaming about Mercury.
October 11, 2019 12:51 pm at 12:51 pm #1792571MilhouseParticipantdrmom â âMercury which isnt safe in any amount in the blood.â
Since when? What evidence exists that it’s in any way unsafe?
October 12, 2019 8:49 pm at 8:49 pm #1792635GadolhadorahParticipantIf you are over 65 (or know someone who is) and find the special 65+ flu vaccine for seniors available, get the shot NOW. They are in very short supply and some locations will not have new shipments of the 65+ injections. The production is limited bvecause it costs more to produce with narrower margns.
October 13, 2019 2:59 am at 2:59 am #1792736MistykinsParticipantCall me a flu shot anti-vaxxer. Donât get me wrong, my kids have gotten every vaccine the doctor has recommended, including the flu shot on a few occasions.
I believe my last flu shot was 13+ years ago. Iâve had 2 cases of bronchitis, several of strep, and a few other equally unpleasant illnesses, but BâH I have not gotten the flu.
October 28, 2019 8:41 pm at 8:41 pm #1795382âď¸coffee addictParticipantI finally got it today
October 29, 2019 12:55 pm at 12:55 pm #1795498Old Crown HeightsParticipantSince Torah says to follow doctor’s medical opinions why isn’t anti-vaxxing propoganda banned from YWN as kefirah?
October 29, 2019 2:08 pm at 2:08 pm #1795505âď¸coffee addictParticipantOld crown Heights,
Where does it say that, are you sure we have the same Torah?
October 29, 2019 2:41 pm at 2:41 pm #1795543Old Crown HeightsParticipantcoffee addict: see Rashi on Exodus 21:18-19
October 29, 2019 4:16 pm at 4:16 pm #1795582âď¸coffee addictParticipantOld crown heights,
I looked at all the rashis over there and donât see anywhere that itâs a mitzvah to go to a doctor
October 29, 2019 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #1795628Old Crown HeightsParticipantMishpatim 21 posuk 19: “and the cost to him to be thoroughly healed,” is understood by mainstream Jewish commentators as doctors’ bills since it doesn’t cost anything to hope and pray that Hashem heals. Which in the Shulchan Aruch is then cited as a mitzvah to go to a doctor when you’re sick.
October 29, 2019 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #1795629Old Crown HeightsParticipantIf the Torah was on board with going to doctors at the time of the exodus then using kal vechomer you got to go to doctors in 2019 when Western medicine actually knows what its talking about.
October 29, 2019 10:07 pm at 10:07 pm #1795638flatbushantivaxxerParticipantYou mean the Alzheimer’s shot. The Flu shot besides causing Alzheimer’s and Dementia in the elderly, also causes Autoimmune disease and heart attacks as well as making you more susceptible to other strains of flu. Im ok with the the Alzheimer’s though because after all ignorance is bliss. Also if you are a Pesi and think that Shomer Pesaim Hashem applies to taking vaccines, than we can argue for you as well that ignorance is Bliss. So when you get sick from the flu shot or the other shots being pushed, don’t think about it and your sickness will magically go away.
