The Tel Aviv District Court on Sunday, 14 Menachem Av 5773 sentenced a 26-year-old avreich to five months in jail, seven months probation, and a 3,000 NIS fine after he took a rosh yeshiva’s vehicle without permission, and without having a drivers license. During his drive, he stuck children riding on bicycles and stationary objects.
Justice Daniela Sharizli sentenced the avreich, who attends a Bnei Brak yeshiva, for the incident which occurred four years earlier. According to the indictment, the rosh yeshiva asked the defendant to bring him a number of items from his vehicle, which is why the rav gave him the keys. The suspect decided that despite not having a license to go for a ride on Kahanaman Street, a ride that resulted in him striking children on bicycles and damaging property.
The court accepted the favorable evaluation of the avreich, who is described as being generally responsible. The report cites that he went to the homes of the children he injured to express remorse and to apologize in person. B”H they only had a few bruises, nothing more serious.

This is newsworthy?
I dont think he did anything worse then the terrorists maybe he can get himself on that list to be freed.
I think its time to free Goldstein
Shouldn’t the headline read: “For driving without a license and hitting children?”
He stole a car and struck pedestrians – children? Why do you say he was jailed for driving without a license? Is YWN lying?
Akuperma: yes it is. It’s called a note to the wise
Sifsei chachamim: let me see you say your brilliant comment if c”v it was your children he hit.
aaa – why do you accuse YWN of lying when the story indicates they are not lying?
The violation here was driving without a license, not hitting the cyclists. Yes, it is obviously wrong to hit a cyclist but it’s also wrong to hit someone else’s car in a fender-bender. But no criminal penalties are imposed for that.
B”H, the kids are okay and I commend him for personally apologizing to the parents of those kids.
He should get 5 YEARS in jail!
#6- Driving without a license is a crime, whether you hit anything or not. A 26 year old should know better.
Driving without a license is against the law. “Dina Malchasa Dina”
This is a crazy story! B”H the kids are fine! I know this seems hard but the nine days and tisha b av was just over let’s try to be dun lkaff zechus and nit judge this man!
Only 5 months? If he was in New York he probably would have gotten much worse. He stole a car, and hit children. That’s terrible. 5 months is nothing.
But at least he didn’t violate the yeshiva’s policy of not allowing the talmidim to get a drivers license.
Didn’t also steal the car, since he did not have the owners permission to use it?
#9 we’re talking about israel where dina d’malchusa doesn’t apply. :).
