The Asbury Park Press reports: The Board of Education and Lakewood Township Committee have agreed on a $200,000 reduction of the school tax levy recommended by the Township Committee. The school board voted unanimously to accept the reduction during a special meeting Wednesday night.
Among expenses to be decreased are $125,000 for certain unspecified employee benefits, $40,000 for “undistributed instruction — purchased services,” $25,000 for “undistributed instruction — textbooks,” and $10,000 for “home instruction — purchased services.”
According to figures provided by the board Wednesday night, the tax levy for general funds — which does not include the levy for payments of debt and interest — is $69.6 million.

why couldn’t the school board find these unnecessary spendings before they submitted the budget? I am sure if they look harder they can find more.
Woopdie Doo !
Another reason why we so blindly support the Vaad ? Are they not ashamed that after such apublic outcry all they could trim is 200k .
Most likely they spent sleepless nights finding these unspecified emplyee benefits and undistributed purchase services ! SHAME ! SHAME ! SHAME !
This just proves once again that the elitist LW ruling class consider all LW citizens to be idiots.
That is less than 1/4 of 1% cut. Time to elect school board members who can make do with alot less.
What might help,if the powers that be actually pay property taxes. Vdaya L’chakima…..
