Interior Security Minister Gilad Erdan spoke on Tuesday at the National Histadrut convention in Yerushalayim that was held in honor of the 85th anniversary of its inception. One of the items that Erdan spoke about was the problems that were faced in the vote counting in the previous elections and the proposed establishment of cameras being placed inside the voting booths.

“We had a lot of criticism during the last election due to not setting up cameras in the voting booths during the ballot counting. We live in a time when transparency is an ideal. There is no reason why we shouldn’t have transparency and there is nothing to hide for those who do not falsify results. We will not compromise with regards to how the ballots are counted and on the purity of our ethics.

For the first time ever, some 3,000 supervisor will be patrolling the polling stations throughout Israel with extra oversight being given to spots that are suspected of dishonest counting. “I had a discussion with the police about providing 1,000 bodycams to polling station ethics supervisors and they will patrol the stations in order to raise the level of transparency of the election process.”

Erdan added that: “There will be full cooperation between the police and the central election committee with regards to the ballot boxes located in sensitive areas. Between the two added security elements this time around I believe we will a higher level of transparency for the public.”
