Rav Arussi Speaks with Israel Radio

arussiRabbi Dr. Ratzon Arussi, who has been the chief rabbi of Kiryat Ono for thirty years, spoke with Israel Radio on Thursday morning, 11 Menachem Av 5773, six days ahead of election of Israel’s new chief rabbis.

Rabbi Arussi explained that yes, he did run in the last election a decade ago but at that time “there was a well-oiled political machine that locked me out. Today, that reality is different.” He adds that the fact the 150 voters will have a secret ballot works in his favor.

Asked to comment on the suitability of Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Rabbi Arussi stated he is not in the habit of speaking about others and he does not plan to respond to the question. He explained “I seek to promote myself by my actions and accomplishments; my service in Kiryat Ono, my rabbonus, my doctorate in law and my IDF service, not be besmirching others.”

“I am confident that if I am elected and I can and will bring the Chief Rabbinate down to the people” he added.

Israel Radio:

But the 150 have already made up their minds. How will you have a chance?

Rabbi Arussi:

Remember it is a hidden ballot and people can say one thing and do another. I am the rav of Kiryat Ono for all. There is not a Sephardi and Ashkenazi rabbi. I serve everyone and hope to do so if elected to the post.
