An inspector working for the Jerusalem light rail humiliated a passenger and the light rail operator, CityPass, will be paying that passenger NIS 1,500 in compensation. The inspector called the passenger “a cheater” in front of many other passengers on the train according to the lawsuit.
The incident occurred in February 2019, when the passenger boarded at the Shar Shechem station with his bicycle folded in half as required. After a few minutes, an inspector approached him to make certain he validated his smart card. The inspector acted inappropriately towards the passenger, finally calling him “a cheater” at the end of their encounter.
“The case hurt the dignity of a person and as a teacher, in front of a crowd. The inspector abused his authority to confront a citizen who did not sin or commit a crime” the lawsuit stated. CityPass explains that the entire goal of the plaintiff is to earn money at CityPass’ expense.
The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court Registrar, Ofer Yechezkel, suggest that the parties terminate the legal process and reach agreement. Both sides were amenable to the NIS 1,500 payment.
