Attorney General Dr. Avichai Mandelblit submitted his opinion regarding the disqualification of certain candidates in the upcoming election to the Central Election Committee (CEC). Among his recommendations, to disqualify two members of the Otzma Yehudit list.
Mandelblit on Tuesday evening submitted his position to the CEC regarding requests to disqualify a number of persons on the Arab List and the Otzma Yehudit list. Mandelblit feels that Baruch Marzel and Bentzion Gupstein should not be permitted to run for Knesset due to the far right-wing views and activities.
The attorney general objected to calls to disqualify attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir, who is also on the Otzma Yehudit list, as well as opposing requests to disqualify Yair Lapid and his Yesh Atid party due to the recently-released controversial election videos against the entire chareidi tzibur. He also suggests approving the Arab List despite requests to disqualify some members of the list.
In response, Otzma Yehudit officials accuse Mandelblit and State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan of “trying to topple a right-wing government. Both Shai Nitzan and Mandelblit know math, and are well-aware of the numbers, and know that without Otzma Yehudit, a right-wing coalition cannot be established. Therefore, they are doing whatever they can to deliver a blow to Otzma Yehudit, based on pure political hashkafa.
“The tzibur can respond to Mandelblit and Nitzan on September 17th with hundreds of thousands of “כף” ballots at the polls. Otzma Yehudit will act in the coming Knesset to restore the attorney general to the previous task, and to appoint an attorney general with a Zionist nationalist hashkafa”.
