A 29-year-old upstate New York man has died a day after being rescued from the Delaware River while swimming with friends.
Relatives of Christopher Montalvo of Middletown tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown that the 29-year-old married father of two young children died early Wednesday morning at a hospital.
Police say Montalvo was swimming in the river the previous morning when he went under and didn’t resurface. He was under water for nearly a half hour before rescuers pulled him from the river.
Officials say he never regained consciousness after paramedics resuscitated him.
Montalvo was pulled from a stretch of the river that’s a popular swimming spot in Port Jervis, located where the state borders of New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey meet 65 miles northwest of New York City.
