Ashkelon police have decided to begin getting tough with the drivers of electric bicycles in the city, which are all too often involved in accidents with other vehicles as well as striking pedestrians. A campaign is underway to step-up compliance with laws pertaining to the operation of an electric bicycle.
Officials report that during the past weeks, the phenomenon of young people riding e-bikes has increased dramatically, placing other road users at risk, with an emphasis placed the younger and older pedestrians. As a result, and with the goal of increasing compliance with the law on the one hand, and increasing public safety on the other, the municipal inspectors working with police stepped-up enforcement activities against e-bike riders in the city’s marina complex, who endangered pedestrians. During recent operations, 22 summonses were issued along with warnings to e-bike riders”.
