A mom and dad employed in emergency room of Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem were behind the initiative. Now, the kids are apart too.
The staff of the hospital’s emergency room initiated an educational day for their children to enable them to know what mom and dad are doing at work.
More than 130 children of the emergency room, nursing and auxiliary staff of the ER in Shaare Zedek, participated in a special activity initiated Wednesday by their parents’ in the ER.
The reason for the day was to introduce the important work of the parents in the ER and to expose them to the reason why mom and dad are away from home so often.
As part of the activity, the children received a hands-on CPR lesson, cross-stitching, inserting an IV, making a cast and more.
Deganit Kubliner: “The children in the home are exposed to stories from their parents’ work, but they do not always really understand the significance of what they do. At times, parents work night shifts and the children do not really understand that they are saving lives. This day exposed our children to the complexities of working in the emergency room, to the importance of live-saving activities, and I am certain the children are leaving here with a new-found appreciation for their parents and the entire medical staff”.
