A new poll shows that most Israelis are opposed to the establishment of a national unity coalition government headed by Likud and the Blue & White parties, including a rotation between Binyamin Netanyahu and Benny Gantz serving as prime minister. The poll was commissioned by Walla News and conducted by Prof. Manu Geva. The poll is the response to recent statements by Yisrael Beitenu party chairman, MK Avigdor Lieberman, calling for the establishment of a national unity government following September 17, 2019 elections for 22nd Knesset. This national unity government according to Lieberman, will of course not include the chareidi parties.
52% of respondents state they oppose a national unity government comprised of Likud and Blue & White headed by Netanyahu, while 34% favor such a reality. The respondents were asked specifically regarding a national unity government headed by Netanyahu, while Lieberman spoke of a possibility of national unity not headed by Likud.
The survey found that the idea of a Netanyahu-led unity government is raising greater opposition among left-wing voters than right-wing voters; 55% of the left/center voters oppose the idea, compared to 48% of right-wing voters, and only 37% of those who define themselves as right and 38% of those who define themselves as left-wing advocates.
At the same time, the Blue & White audience seems more enthusiastic about a unity government than the Likud audience: 51% among those planning to vote Blue & White in the election support a unity government led by Netanyahu compared to 42% who oppose it, while 49% of those planning to vote Likud oppose the idea and only 37% support it.
