Marzel to AG Weinstein: Summon Moshe Rabbeinu Too

marzelAs State Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein plans to summons Tzfas Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu and Holon Chief Rabbi Avraham Yosef to clarify their hashkafa, Hebron activist Baruch Marzel cynically calls on Weinstein to summon Moshe Rabbeinu.

It appears the Israeli democratic process is limited to left-wing secular views. When it comes to frum people, rabbonim and people who do not tow the party line, the rules of play change.

Regarding the prominent rabbonim, for as long as their Halachic hashkafa is viewed as objectionable to the likes of Weinstein, their candidacy in the race for the Chief Rabbinate may be blocked by Weinstein of the High Court of Justice. There has already been an outcry against their candidacies from women’s organizations and the Yesh Atid and The Movement parties.

Marzel explains that based on the parsha and Jewish history, Moshe is a radical person who “threatens democratic principles”, and therefore, he and those who follow him pose a threat to the state and must be summoned to clarify their position. He calls on Weinstein that when he is done speaking with Rav Eliyahu, who announced one may not rent or sell apartments in Tzfas in line with Halacha, to immediately summon Moshe Rabbeinu, for he is certainly the “ring leader” and to file a criminal indictment against him. Marzel adds “this is the only way, once and for all, to show everyone exactly what we stand for”.
