Officials in the Jerusalem municipality boast that for a fourth year running, the city is at the forefront of recycling.
City officials report that a small number of recycling collection bins for paper and bottles are being removed to facilitate a path for pedestrians. This is being done in areas where the bins are interfering with pedestrian traffic.
It is pointed out they the removal of collection bins will only take place in areas where there are other bins nearby, all with the purpose of improving the appearance of the city and public areas.
There are over 100 recycling collection centers around the city and over 3000 collection bins. The city plans to increase that number in the future in areas where the infrastructure will permit.
The city officials add Jerusalem remains a leader in recycling, reporting 42% of all trash was recycled in 2018.

Trust me, there is no way in the world that 42% of trash was recycled.
Something here doesn’t sound right. They’ve removed ALL the paper recycle bins in Neve Yaakov. Do you mean to tell me that they all were interefering with pedestrian traffic? Certainly not the one that used to be in front of my house where there is a nice wide sidewalk. The bin was pushed all the way against the wall and wasn’t bothering anybody.
I did hear that the municipality is in the process of removing the bins to make way for a new company to take over the job. Time will tell.
