Five men have been indicted in the kidnapping of 14-year-old Yante Teller and her 12-year-old brother Chaim from Woodridge and later from Brooklyn to return them to the Lev Tahor Cult.
They were abducted as the result of a plot by Nachman Helbrans, 36; Mayer Rosner, 42, and his son Jacob Rosner, 20; members of the Lev Tahor sect, which their mother had fled; and Aron Rosner, 45, of Brooklyn, Mayer Rosner’s brother. A fifth man, Lev Tahor member Matityau Malka, was charged with aiding a second kidnapping plot in March.
The FBI said Malka and other members of Lev Tahor planned to kidnap 14-year-old Yante Teller and her 12-year old brother Chaim Teller, three months after they were taken from their mother in upstate New York – on a Shabbos morning – and later recovered by law enforcement in Mexico.
Authorities said Malka gave several cellphones to the girl in Brooklyn, so that cult leaders – including Sara’s brother, Nachman, who is incarcerated in Westchester County Jail – could talk secretly to her about her recapture.
The mother had been a member of Lev Tahor – her father, Rabbi Shlomo Helbrans, founded the sect in 1994 – but fled the group last year after its leadership, which include her brother Mayer Rosner, became increasingly extreme, according to the FBI.
An indictment handed up earlier this month charges all five men with conspiracy to defraud the United States and international parental kidnapping. All entered not-guilty pleas, and the case has now been assigned to U.S. District Court Judge Nelson S. Roman.
[LEV TAHOR HORROR: Tales of Beatings and Torture Emerge From Excommunicated Cult Members]
They were indicted earlier this month in District Court in New York on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States and international parental kidnapping. They have all pleaded not guilty. Four are being held without bond. Aron Rosner was released on a $10 million bond to home confinement and electronic monitoring.
Former members of Lev Tahor (who either escaped or were otherwise expelled) do not recall learning Mishnayos or Gemara, nor any Mitzvos Bein Adam LeChaveiro. They spend the majority of the day in deep prayer and are only allowed to study certain sections of the Chumash, with Lev Tahor commentary.
Reports indicate cult leaders have suggested death as better alternative than life outside the cult.
YWN has been at the forefront for more than 10 years fighting the Lev Tahor cult – with dozens of articles over the years.
Lev Tahor was founded and led by Shlomo Helbrans, from the 1980s until his drowning death in Mexico in 2017. Since then, the leadership has moved into the hands of his son Nachman Helbrans, along with Mayer Rosner, Yankel and Yoel Weingarten, who are even more radical and aggressive than the late founder.

Don’t worry: Frankfurter and AMI will be running a pidyon shvuyim campaign soon!
You would think if they live like our Avos, they dont need electronic monitoring when coming out of jail..
Hashem should help these children that the situation should not deteriorate even more
how are these people considered religious if it says in the torah not to steal humans.
bunch of fakers..
I want to state a cautionary note. The same way that this Nachman guy and his and his co-conspirators filled the role of the leader when the old man drowned, there are others taking the spaces that these thugs left when they got arrested. The evil will perpetuate until it is stopped. I am all in favor of arresting and imprisoning all perpetrators here, and I hope all get life sentences without parole, at the very least. But the fear is that the evil is not stopping by chopping off these heads. More needs to be done to eliminate this cult completely.
I don’t believe the Loshon hora about these kedoshim
to iuse……….. kedoshim don’t kidnap children on shabbos\\\\\\\
lock ’em up and throw away the keys…
IUse:
You’re back again. These goons were proven to be baalei aveiroh as well as criminals, and Klal Yisroel is rejoicing that the authorities have finally nabbed them. We anxiously await the completion of ובערת הרע מקרבך, that these evil people who truncate the Torah to their personal agendas are dealt the wrath of the Torah that was disgraced by their derech. We won’t argue with you, and we will not stop our tefillos that the Glory of Hashem should be revealed, with להעביר גילולים מן הארץ והאלילים כרות יכרתון. Learning to worship a human being is עבודה זרה, and this is intolerable and unacceptable. We will never consider these career baalei aveiroh respectable members of Klal Yisroel, and kal vachomer to misapply labels like kedoshim to these masters of אבי אבות הטומאה. If you’re smart, you will run away from this pagan ideology and the life of crime, abuse, and גילוי עריות. If you’re that stubborn to stick with it, you are on the wrong side of the fence, and will get the brunt of the tefilos of all of Klal Yisroel.
Ever.
Will Ami cover the story? What a disgrace. It’s one thing to be chasidish but don’t defend all the extremists.
The children were removed from the father initially. There is no guilt for recovering a lost object, let alone one’s own children.
The father has the right here, they were taken from him!
And stop the “CULT” name that is pure (impure) Lashon Hara, and you will see where that will get you, you fakers and evil commentators, you will see, you can not prejudge so maliciously and get away with it, there is something wrong with each one of you fakers who tell evil lies against Lev Tahor, YOU WILL NOT GET AWAY WITH IT.
Correction, those kids were kidnapped 4x. Once when they were caught trying to cross from Mexico with a woman pretending to be their mother, 2nd time was somewhere near Monroe. And the rest as you noted. The place is run like a concentration camp, no exaggeration, and the world stands still, again. The co-conspirators ir people who don’t care, or have their heads in the sand are saying, nu, lashing hara. When it is a tremendous travesty on each and every one of us to remain silent. It’s true, once this is stopped, the frum world will have to open their hearts and pockets to reintegrate them into society, but aren’t we obligated to do pidyan and free all these families and especially innocent children??!!!!
They will need housing, jobs, food, therapy, schooling. Some of them are afraid to leave eventough its so bad because they don’t know where to start. Where are the wealthy Yiden in our community who are ready to reassure them that they won’t be alone? After the Holocaust there were people helping out the survivors. These poor families trapped in this awful cult are the same. They need our help, guidance and support.
Surely IUseBrains is a troll? Or a total sicko. Probably both. YWN, you certainly do your bit to bury these abusers. Nebach on those who are still deluded & therefore, trapped.
mo613, u dont know all the details
The little I know”, sorry but u don’t know what you are talking about
“There is no guilt for recovering a lost object, let alone one’s own children.“
Ready now, you are a sick non human being
To compare kids to an object shows it clearly
I wonder if you were whipped when you didn’t do something right away like someone would whip his animal to move
#Coffeeaddict, Despite the fact that your post does not deserve my reply, in the context that it was used, “let alone” means “HOW MUCH MORE SO”, and this explanation is also for other people with limited comprehension.
There is no comparison of children to objects. Jaakov Avinu returned for the jars he had left behind because he valued them, as is written in Torah and pointing out the Halacha of ownership is the main principle and the purpose of my previous post and of this post.
The principle is that he owner owns the items, the children, whatever, for those of you evil commentators who are who have no real concept of morality, ownership, theft and LASHON HARA! You who encourage, without a din Torah, the taking of children from a parent who originally has the child in his possession.
CA, get a grip on your crude imagination!
