The Save Our Schools Coalition announced a “peaceful protest” 6:45 p.m. Monday at the East Ramapo School District administration building at 105 South Madison Ave. in Spring Valley in response to the incident at last week’s board of education meeting.

In addition to calling for the district to immediately fire the law firm Minerva and D’Agostino, they will also call for the state to intervene to deal with the issues facing the troubled district.

The release cites what it calls “numerous outbursts and unprofessional conduct on behalf of lawyers, specifically Christopher Kirby and Albert D’Agostiono. Kirby drew heavy criticism from residents and local oficials for a profanity-filled tirade in the parking lot after a board of education meeting July 2.

The East Ramapo School District Board of Education announced that it will hold a special meeting 7 p.m. Monday in the district administration building. Though as of Sunday night, no agenda for the meeting had been posted on the district website, the district did release a statement last Wednesday.

The statement reads, “We are deeply troubled by the events that occurred immediately following the conclusion of our school board meeting last night. The board has taken the matter under advisement and will address it at a special session.”

State Senator David Carlucci and Suffern Mayor Dagan Lacorte both called for the district to fire Kirby in statements released last Wednesday.
Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee went a step further Friday, calling for the district to cut ties with Minerva and D’Agostino.

The announcement from the Save Our Schools Coalition included a statement from Antonio Luciano, the district parent and videographer confronted by Kirby last week. Luciano has also been critical of the district and Minerva and D’Agostino in the past.

“State intervention is the only answer that I can see at this point,” Luciano said. “Only time will tell what the solution will be, but it looks pretty dire if it continues this way for East Ramapo and the community.”
