The Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court on motzei Shabbos extended the remand of a 35-year-old man who R”L is suspected of stabbing his mother to death on Shabbos on Herzl Street in Bnei Brak. The man’s detention was extended by a week to permit him to undergo psychiatric evaluation.
Attorney Dan Baumel, a public defender, stated “I called Bnei Brak police and found a young man suspected of murdering his mother in very shaky mental condition. In the discussion that took place, I asked him to undergo a psychiatric examination, as the police also realized that his mental state must be evaluated. I do not know of his background. This is a son and mother; whose relationship was normal to the best of my knowledge. This is a most unfortunate case”.
The tragic attack occurred on Shabbos morning. The husband phoned police and reported his son attacked and killed his mother, the caller’s wife, using a knife.
The mother, 65, was found dead with multiple stab wounds to her upper body. MDA reports receiving the call at 5:58AM on Shabbos morning.
Neighbors told police the two always fought. Mispallalim from a shul near the home where the attack occurred told Ynet that the son, the attacker in detention, has had mental issues for a long time.
