The Movement for Quality Government (MQG) has sent a letter to Minister of Religious Services Naftali Bennett, asking him to change the makeup of the 150 member voting body which will elect the next Chief Rabbis of Israel. MQG officials point out that included in the voting body are mayor and municipality heads who face criminal charges. The organization feels such people should not have a say in the appointment of the chief rabbis.
Mayors who are currently facing criminal indictments include the mayors of Ramat Gan, Ramat HaSharon and Upper Nazareth.
