Former Finance Minister Avraham Hirschson announced that he will wave his right to parliamentary immunity, a move that will save much time and most likely, embarrassment for the former senior government minister who will now face a multi-count criminal indictment, alleged to have pocketed over $720,000 of public funds as well as maintaining a high lifestyle at the expense of others. It is likely that his case will be a high profile event, as the details of the former minister’s actions unfold before the scrutinizing eye of the public.
Had Hirschson insisted using his parliamentary immunity, this would have compelled the Knesset to vote to strip him of his immunity to clear the way for the state attorney general to move ahead with the serious indictment. Now, that he has waved this process, an indictment will be handed down in the Tel Aviv District Court.
