Israel Prison Authority (IPA) officials report that during the weekend, they foiled efforts to smuggle eleven cellphones into Ofer Prison, referring to efforts to smuggle phones to imprisoned terrorists. Two prisoners, with one affiliated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the second, Fatah, worked to bring in the phones. It is pointed out they are imprisoned for “light crimes”.
One of the prisoners, a Ramallah resident, affiliated with the PFLP, elicited the suspicion of guards. When questioned, he admitted that he was hiding three phones on his body.
The Fatah-affiliated prisoner first denied he was smuggling, but guards later found additional ‘Sarsour’ phones on his body.
The attempted smuggling of cellular phones into the prison is a commonplace event, often by relatives of prisoners, as well as by an Arab MK, Basel Ghattas, who was apprehended, leading to his ousting from Knesset and his subsequent imprisonment.

Why is the Israel Prison Authority (IPA) engaged in a sideline of brewing funny-tasting ale? I don’t like it, but a lot of people do. Does it help finance the Israel prison system?
