Hamas Opposes French Peace-Keeping Offer

The Gazan Hamas regime remains opposed to an offer made by France to take part in a peace-keeping force deployed in Palestinian Authority (PA) autonomous areas.

France is in line to assume the leadership of the European Union, and French Prime Minister Francois Fillon last week in his address to an American Jewish Committee dinner stated France and the European community can play a major peace-keeping role in PA autonomous areas.

French observers are already serving at the Rafiah Crossing between Gaza and Egypt but Hamas nevertheless remains adamantly opposed to such a peacekeeping force in areas under its control.

Fillon also expressed criticism against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his constant statements and threats against Israel.
