Quinn Hits Back At ‘Desperate’ and ‘Sleepy’ Opponents

Sinking in the polls, the once upon a time Frontrunner, Christine Quinn, is fighting back. In an exclusive interview with NY1’s Errol Louis, Ms.Quinn ripped into two of her Democratic rivals, calling Bill de Blasio “desperate” and Bill Thompson “asleep at the switch” when he served as city comptroller.

“Bill de Blasio is desperate. He is stuck in the bottom of the polls and he’s desperately, and quite frankly, sadly attacking an institution I’m incredibly proud of — an institution he was a member of and in the leadership of for eight years,” Ms. Quinn said.

De Blasio has accused Quinn of working too closely with Mayor Michael Bloomberg — a charge Ms. Quinn threw back Mr. de Blasio’s charges, of working too closely with mayor Bloomberg, back at the Public Advocate’s face.

“I’ll put my record of working towards consensus and — when I couldn’t — standing up independently against anybody’s. You attack other people’s records, Errol, when you don’t have your own,” Quinn said.

The council speaker was also was highly critical of Bill Thompson’s role in a scandal involving the city’s automated payroll system known as CityTime, seizing on a Daily News report that Thompson didn’t red-flag a suspect contract.

“His most basic responsibility is to audit. He didn’t do that. He was asleep at the switch and first started taking responsibility and now is blaming other people when he let $700 million basically go right under his nose. That’s a record he has to defend and stop blaming other people,” Quinn said.
