About two years after the tragic death of a kallah during the week of Sheva Brachos, her husband is suing the officials responsible for the failure that led to her death just six days after their chupah.
The tragedy occurred on 29 Menachem Av 5777, when the kallah Shani Levi-Berdichevsky A”H was found dead in the bathtub after being electrocuted. For her husband Levi, it was his second marriage.
Now two years after the disaster, widow Danny Berdichevsky is suing the owner of the rented apartment on Bialik Street in Tirat HaCarmel after complaining and warning him days earlier about the fault in the electricity system and how the circuit breaker often jumped without explanation.
In the statement of complaint, Danny notes that the owner of the apartment did send an electrician who repaired two loose wires, and it seems that the problem worked out, but the day after the wedding the electricity jumped again and the electrician was invited again in coordination with the owner of the apartment. He discovered the source of the problem and said that there was a problem with the emergency shutoff switch and that he was disconnecting him until he replaced the switch, according to Danny. It was this action that caused the tragic death of his new bride.
A family acquaintance is quoted telling BeChadrei Chareidim at the time that “this is a pair of baalei teshuvah, and the chosson, Danny, returned to a life of mitzvos a year ago and was married at the Kinorot Hall. On the last day of Sheva Brachos, the chosson went to mincha and maariv in Yeshivas Sha’agas Aryeh near his home to bring back avreichim to celebrate the Sheva Brachos in his home. The kallah went to shower before the simcha. Ima prepared the food for the simcha and when she saw her daughter did not come out, she called the chosson who entered via a window to open the door and saw the worst possible scenario.”
“This is a big tragedy for us” he explained, “A broken family of chareidi baalei teshuvah. I hope they all come back following this difficult incident”.
In an interview with BeChadrei following the fatal tragedy, Danny said, “The only thing that can comfort me is thinking she is above in a high place, with tzaddikim”.
Now, via attorney Mordechai Cohen Nissan, he is suing for millions of shekels from a number of defendants for the death of his bride, including; the agent for the apartment, the agent’s grandson, the electrician who serviced the apartment, the insurance company for the apt., the local authority and government corporation.

What does the fact that they were בעלי תשובה have to do with the story?
Very strange. Is there some reason under liability laws in EY someone would wait 2 years to bring their claim? Also, the article is unclear as to whether this was some type of an electricity-powered Jacuzzi spa which had an on/off switch within reach of the water. Normally, these are air switches which protect exactly against this kind if risk. Otherwise, if the circuit breaker was “opening” (I think that what they mean by “jumped”) than there would be no power to the tub. All of the above notwithstanding, this is still a tragedy and the husband should hopefully be able to find purpose and some satisfaction in his life although nothing can replace his loss.
This is a personal tragedy & should be kept private. No need to post a photo of the nifteres or report this lawsuit. Stop posting clickbait to make more money off advertising.
Your headline has so many details only because you want everyone to read the old news
This shouldn’t be in arkois.
there are some seriously judgemental people on this site. calling a picture of a nifteres – chickbait? judging the use of the court system, without not an iota of knowledge about what has transpired that might justify such behavior! Too much info in the headline from an editor-in-training!!
Please focus on the important fact, the combination of electricity and water can be fatal. People must respect electricity and hire licensed professionals to do their installation and repairs. Landlords must be more mindful of their tenant’s safety and not take shortcuts. Handymen and maintenance people need to know their limitations and call for professional help when needed.
This is a tragic event that may have been avoided. I have seen many situations where the building structure and / or component have become energized. I have seen this just this past week. This comes generally from poor repair work or unpermitted work that was not inspected.
Why is it that we need to have a tragedy, R”L, to have a wakeup call.
This forum is not the place to write pages on this topic. Respect electricity and when in doubt call a professional. Feel free to contact me.
