Knesset Speaker Edelstein: There is Simply No Way to Stop the Elections

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein on Wednesday announced that despite efforts to prevent the planned Knesset election, set for Tuesday, September 17, 2019, there is no way possible to cancel the election at this time. He explained the efforts by many to cancel the election were in vain, as it is simply too late for such a move.

Using Twitter to get his message out, Edelstein explained, “In recent days, I was asked, on behalf of the citizens of Israel, to cancel the needles election and thereby saving billions. Unfortunately, not everyone cooperated so therefore, it is not possible to cancel elections.”

One is reminded that while many tried to cancel the election, the Blue and White party was adamant, refusing to go along with the effort, insisting it was too late and the election must take place as planned since Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu did not pass the presidential mandate to Benny Gantz to permit him to attempt to establish a coalition government, but dissolved the Knesset and called for elections instead.

Yahadut Hatorah was in favor, with Moshe Gafne explaining he feels the elections will be a waste of time and money, having met with Edelstein in the hope of advancing the cancelation, but it was no longer possible.

Responding to Edelstein’s message was Yesh Atid chairman, MK Yair Lapid, who tweeted; “You want to save more than billions Yuli? Come, let’s establish a national unity government without Bibi and not give in to extortion.”
