Yad L’Achim Calls to Boycott International Bible Contest

YadLAchim.jpgYad L’Achim is calling for a boycott on the annual Independence Day International Bible Contest held in Yerushalayim after learning one of the four finalists is a Messianic Jew.

After learning that 11th grader Bat-El Levi, from the Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood of the capital is a finalist, Yad L’Achim expressed its strong objections to her participation.

The move sparked a threatened boycott by four gedolim affiliated with the Dati Leumi Camp, Rav Shlomo Aviner, Rav Tzvi Tau, Rav Shmuel Eliyahu and Rav Yaakov Yosef.

Education Ministry officials explain that the rules of the contest demand that participants are Jews, and Bet-El is a Jew so her participation cannot be questioned.

  1. She may be a practicing Messianic Jew (i.e., Christian), but if her mother (and her mother’s mother, etc.) was Jewish, then she is, too.
