Jerusalem Municipality Okays Moving Forward With Light Rail’s “Brown Line”


The Jerusalem Municipality Finance Committee has approved the grant for moving ahead with another phase of the city’s light rail, the Brown Line. The line will begin in Atarot and will end in the eastern capital.

The Jerusalem Finance Committee last week approved a large grant provided from funding from the Transportation Ministry in the amount of NIS 31 million to begin the light rail’s Brown Line, which will provide great relief for residents of the eastern capital.

The Brown Line is one of three new lines approved in 2016 by then Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz, and it will connect between Shuafat and Uhm Lisun in the eastern capital.

According to the planned route, the line will begin from the Atarot Airport and end in Uhm Lisun. Now, the work will begin to map out the exact route based on the infrastructure in the eastern capital and other considerations.

Jerusalem Councilman (Hisorarus) Elad Malka commented “I welcome the permit and budget which represent an example of the city seeing to the needs of residents of the eastern city. Advancing the infrastructure and public transportation in the eastern city are a part of actualizing our sovereignty in the eastern city, which is expressed in the form of infrastructure investment, and the integration of the eastern and western capital”.
