A man was killed when a large safe fell on top of him in Manhattan’s Chinatown Sunday.

The apparent accident happened around 4:30 p.m. local time inside a building at 76 Mott Street.

Police say the unidentified victim was attempting to move the safe up a flight of stairs with two friends when it came crashing down–killing him.

According to the NY Post, the safe, weighing ‘between 600 and 800 pounds, slid down the stairs and pinned the man against the wall of the stairwell.’

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another person was also injured in the incident and was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
