Remember Howard Dean’s Scream at a post-caucus rally held in West Des Moines, Iowa during the 2004 Democrat presidential primary campaign? Well, YEAH! Howard Dean, the former Governor of Vermont, today endorsed Public Advocate and Democrat Bill de Blasio for Mayor, citing his strong progressive record and history of taking on special interests and the elite.
Dean announced he will host a fundraiser for de Blasio in Brooklyn on July 18th.
“Bill de Blasio is the progressive fighter New York City needs,” Howard Dean said in a press release. “As a lifelong progressive reformer and grassroots organizer, Bill will take on the elite who profit from the status quo at the expense of working families. From battling the flood of corporate money and corrupt insiders deals that infect our politics to challenging the powerful interests that block common-sense gun violence prevention, Bill has always been a voice for everyday New Yorkers. I’m proud to stand with the clear progressive choice for NYC mayor.”
“Howard Dean is a fighter for the progressive movement and a champion for working families,” said de Blasio in a statement released by his campaign. “I’m honored to have his support as we take New York City in a new direction: one that marks a real change from Mayor Bloomberg’s focus on big developers, Wall Street, and the wealthy.”
