A two-year-old toddler drowned in a backyard pool in the Charedi town of Meitzad in Gush Etzion on Wednesday afternoon. Magen David Adom teams were dispatched to the scene and began CPR on the infant who was pulled from the water pulseless. Following a lengthy CPR the baby’s condition did not improve and he was rushed to Shaare Zedek hospital in Yerushalayim while still undergoing CPR.

According to a report by the police, the baby’s pulse returned at the entrance to the hospital and he was transferred to the intensive care unit where he is undergoing further treatment and attempts to save his life. Police also said that they are investigating the incident in Meitzad.

A spokesperson for Shaare Zedek said: “The infant was brought to the hospital after he drowned. The infant has no pulse and is not breathing on his own. He arrived after a lengthy CPR process in critical condition. Medical teams at Shaare Zedek are continuing to fight to save the baby’s life. His condition is still critical.”

MDA paramedic Idit Zahavi said: “When we arrived at the scene in Meitzad we found MDA volunteers performing CPR on an infant who was two years of age. We were told that the infant had drowned in a pool at home and was pulled from the water without a pulse and was not breathing. We continued to provide medical treatment and advanced CPR and transported the child to Shaare Zedek hospital where medical teams are still fighting to save the child’s life.”
