Interference Impacts Takeoffs & Landings In Israel – The Source Remains A Mystery

Israel’s Airports Authority reported that for the last three weeks, Israel’s airspace has been experiencing interference with the GPS navigation system.

As a result of the disturbances, changes were made in some of the entry procedures for landing, and it was made using professional means used daily at airports around the world (the ILS procedure) and in Israel in particular.

Disruptions are felt only by aircraft in the air rather than by sensors in the ground. The impact is significant in terms of plane operations at the cockpit level, and partly for the management of air traffic.

The Ben-Gurion Airport supervisors constantly carry out full escort of the aircraft taking off and landing, and at no stage was there a safety incident related to GPS interference in connection with the accuracy of navigation and flight routes.

From the first day that the disturbance occurred, all the elements in Israel have been working to solve the problem and find the source of the problem.

  1. Ominous. Someone (almost certainly not friendly) is testing Israeli air control. If we get into a war with one of our neighbors it will stop being harmless. Remember that Iran (and Russia) have some pretty competent hackers. Maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to rush into a war with Iran or Syria. We might ch”v get the same sort of surprises we got in 1973.
