  1. Fischer should have a refuah shelamah. He has been of the great central bankers in modern history and is responsible for EY coming through the recent financial crisis in much better shape than most industrialized countries. His monetary policies have kept inflation relatively low and promoted growth among EY’s technology companies which are the growth engine for the economy. He also has been a leading advocate for greater chareidi participation in the work force through better education and vocational training and has highlighted the threat to the Israeli economy posed by the unsustainable increase in the numbers of unemployed Chareidim contributing little if anything to the economy.

  2. Godolhadorah

How can you say they Chareidim are contributing little if nothing to the Economy- but they are contributing so much Torah which is allowing the country to survive against our enemies

What you might say that Chareidim who are not up to learning should become part of the work force

Lets be careful whart we say

  3. If you really cared about the economy, you’d get rid of the draft law. More people would work and get the education they needed if they didn’t have to worry about facing criminal penalties for living the life they choose.

  4. To No. 1

I respect your view of the “value” of torah learning in an abstract sense but when you look at the demographics of the Chareidi tzibur, their unemployment rate and their social welfare costs, the numbers simply get out of control within 20 or 25 years. While its good to have a modest number of kollel yungerleit learning 24×7, EY cannot afford to have hundreds of thousands of unemployed young men sitting around without jobs. Fischer has been unequivocal that they have to get educated, get job skills and join the work force. I’m not even going to get into the draft issue…this is about simple arithmetic. The medinah will drown economically from the dead weight the growing number of unemployed chareidi youth represent.
