Former Justice Minister Chaim Ramon, of the Labor party, has come out against MK Yair Lapid, who holds the number two slot on the Blue and White party as well as chairing the Yesh Atid party. According to Ramon, Lapid is using the draft law for political gain. “He lives politically in fanning hatred against the chareidim”.

Using his Twitter account, Ramon said, “Not a single chareidi was inducted by force in 71 years despite all the laws intended to solve this. There is a full exemption for chareidim like the Arabs. The money saved from the grants, about NIS 2 billion, can be given to demobilized soldiers who serve three years, and this will lead to chareidim getting out and working. ‘Sharing the burden’ is an empty slogan that Lapid carries in vain”.

Ramon added: “The Arab citizens of Israel enjoy all the rights and are exempt from military service and for some reason it does not bother you and you do not demand their enlistment as you demand the enlistment of the chareidim.

“Suggest that you read the book of your party colleague, Elazar Stern, ‘Fearing Our Fate’ and understand that the only solution is a complete exemption for chareidim that will make them go out to work for their own good and for the benefit of the Israeli economy.”

The third person on the Blue and White roster, a slot behind Lapid, is former Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, who on Wednesday also spoke out against Lapid, explaining he has created the situation in which the chareidim have ruled out cooperating with the party due to his statements, adding Lapid is “pushing away potential voters” and he is “a liability” to the party.
