Chareidi residents of the Nof Kineret – Poriah neighborhood of Tiveria were surprised last Shabbos to see construction workers arriving during the morning hours to work.
Last Shabbos, at 9:00AM, a contractor arrived with his workers to begin sealing roofs in the Nof Kineret – Poriah project, Area ‘A’, Building 6, Kikar Shabbos News reports.
One area resident is quoted explaining that he was in shul when the workers arrived, to the surprise of his wife, pointing out the neighborhood is chareidi and Chilul Shabbos is not expected nor tolerated.
Many residents are moving into the new buildings now, not just chareidim, while some of the project’s buildings await government permits to move in.
The company building the project reports it has already been in contact with the contractor, who was censured and promise it does not permit work on the project on Shabbos. company officials promise it was a one-time occurrence, pointing out the building site did not operate on Chol Hamoed Pesach and Sukkos either.
