Continued Efforts to Prevent the Smuggling of Non-Conventional Weapons

nuclear5.jpgIsrael and the United States will be working to install a system to prevent smuggling a nuclear device into Israel through Ben-Gurion International Airport.

The National Security Council is working in earnest towards the installation of sensors that will detect the entry of people, vehicles, or any parcel containing radioactive materials into Ben-Gurion Airport.

The work involves a number of local agencies, in addition to the anticipated arrival of a senior American team of experts whom will oversee the operation, part of America’s global anti-terror effort. The system has already been installed in a number of airports around the world, part of America’s Megaports Operation.

A similar system already exists in the Port of Haifa, and it is slated for installation in the Port of Ashdod.

The US government is expected to pick up a sizable portion of the tab for the system being stalled in the airport. The ports of sea are being undertaken by the Israeli government.

National Security Council officials are currently checking the system already operating in other airports around the world to learn how the system will be incorporated into the Ben-Gurion infrastructure.
