County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef today presented three members of the Rockland Emergency Medical Services (EMS) community with plaques from the Hudson Valley Regional EMS Council, along with a trophy to the winner of the Overall EMS Youth Competition that took place in May.
The following were honored:
• Katherine Zoda, Nanuet Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps – Youth Member of the Year
• Piermont Fire Department 13-EM – EMS Agency of the Year
• South Orangetown Volunteer Ambulance Corps – Excellence in EMS Quality and Safety
• Stony Point Volunteer Ambulance Corps Team #1 – Winner of the Overall EMS Youth Competition
“We are very proud of our honorees and their continued dedication to making this a safer County for all who live here,” said Vanderhoef. “On behalf of all Rocklanders, we thank them for their tremendous efforts.”
Katherine Zoda, the Piermont Fire Department and the South Orangetown Volunteer Ambulance Corps were honored at
the County level at a ceremony in May. They were selected for regional honors from applicants in Sullivan, Ulster,
Dutchess, Putnam, Orange and Rockland counties. They will also be considered for statewide recognition.
Recipients of the DeFlumere Award who were also present to receive their awards included: the Pearl River Ambulance
Corps, the South Orangetown Ambulance Corps, Rockland Paramedics and the Rockland County Technical Rescue
Team. The other award recipients include the Pearl River Volunteer Fire Department and the Orangetown Police
Department who will receive their awards at a later date. They were honored for their heroic efforts in rescuing family members from a house that a tree fell on during Superstorm Sandy.
