The wife of terror victim Gavriel Lavi, the Breslov Chossid who was targeted in the stabbing attack in Jerusalem’s Old City.
Mrs. Nili Lavi told Kikar Shabbos News after hearing of her husband’s serious condition resulting from his injuries sustained in the attack, speaking from the Hospital. “First of all, I wish to thank all of Am Yisrael for the tefilos and concern. Even on the light rail on my way here, the train inspector remained at my side and cried with me. They gave me tissues and water. She brought me to the emergency room and remained until a social worker arrived. Things like this only occur in Am Yisrael”.
Rav Gavriel was attacked by a terrorist near Shar Shechem, after which the terrorist stabbed a yeshiva bochur, injuring him moderately. He was then neutralized by border police.
Mrs. Lavi was home preparing for Shabbos when the phone rang, and she was informed her husband had been attacked and is in Shaare Zedek Hospital. “His yeshiva is in the Muslim Quarter, and he was returning from limud chatzos after which he headed to tefilla and from davening back to yeshiva, and this is when he was stabbed. The nurse in the hospital called while I was in the midst of cooking alone in the house”.
“I thank everyone for the tefilos and phone calls that I received; from the rabbonim, talmidim and from everyone. I know everyone is davening because we are one” added Mrs. Lavi.
In her comments regarding the site of the attack, she added, “We will continue walking via Shar Shechem. We will not permit them to limit us from any place in Eretz Yisrael, which is ours”.
She told the press her husband’s entire life is limud Torah, and he sits in the yeshiva day and night. She is confident in this merit and her supporting his lifestyle, and the Torah of her children, the mesirus nefesh and recitation of Tikun Klalli, will stand at her husband’s side at this difficult time. She is confident he will recover, and they will then make a Seudas Hodaiya.
The tzibur is asked to be mispallel for Gavriel ben Inas (אינס). The name of the yeshiva bochur who was injured in the attack is Yisrael Meir ben Chavah.
The Shaare Zedek Hospital spokesperson, Shoham Rubin, explained on Sunday afternoon that B’chasdei Hashem, Gavriel is now breathing on his own and remains in an intensive care unit.
The Hadassah Hospital spokesperson reported on Sunday that Meir Nachumberg’s condition, the second victim, has improved, and he was moved from an intensive care unit to a regular unit, listed in light condition at this time.
