According to the Department of Transportation, cyclists in the new Citi Bike sharing program have taken more than 250,000 rides on the hard-to-miss blue bikes since the program’s launch on Memorial Day.
While the city’s new bike share program has its critics, DOT officials say they have sold more than 40,000 annual memberships.
Yearly members can ride for 45 minutes at a time, while daily and weekly members get a half hour.
Officials say riders have pedaled nearly 700,000 miles since the program began.
